Unite Against Book Bans – Our 2025 Charity Partner!
When planning the very first Picture Book Summit over 11 years ago, we knew we wanted to be able to pay it forward by giving a portion of the proceeds from the event to support charities that focus on literacy and getting books into the hands of kids.
Over the last 11 years we’ve been honored to work with and donate over $57,000 to:
- We Need Diverse Books
- Two Title I Schools in Oregon and Connecticut
- Reading Partners
- San Juan Public Library in Puerto Rico (2-time recipient!)
- Project Night Night
- Binc – The Book Industry Charitable Foundation
- Little Free Library’s Read in Color Program
- Reading Education Assistance Dog (R.E.A.D.)
- Reach Out and Read
You can find out more details about our previous charity partners on our Charity Partner page here.
For 2025, we are proud to support UNITE AGAINST BOOK BANS!
Here’s a little bit about Unite Against Book Bans:
Our friends at the American Library Association (ALA) have organized Unite Against Book Bans (UABB) to protect the rights of everyone to access a variety of books. Like the ALA and the campaign’s partner organizations, we trust individuals to make their own decisions about what they
read and believe.
While a large majority of Americans are opposed to book bans, efforts to ban books, especially in schools and libraries, are rising at an unprecedented level across the country. The goal for the Unite Against Book Bans campaign is to harness the energy of the large majority of Americans that oppose book bans and empower them to use their voice in the public arena to stop these efforts.
With more than 200 partner organizations and tens of thousands of individual supporters, Unite Against Book Bans connects, equips, and mobilizes the public to advocate in their communities for the right to read and to defeat attempts at every level of government to censor reading material.
UABB represents the overwhelming majority of Americans that believe in the freedom to read. Our coalition members are readers, parents, students, educators, librarians and library workers, authors, publishers, community and advocacy organizations, businesses and workers, nonprofits, faith groups, elected officials, civic leaders, and other concerned people who stand ready to oppose censorship.
